Nobody should have to do it alone - the power of healing in community
Imagine this: you've just arrived at a hotel and your room is on the fourth floor. The elevators aren't working.
You have heavy luggage - and a friend, a family member, or a colleague right beside you. The most natural thing in the world would be to ask them to help you carry it up the stairs.
And yet when it comes to the weight we carry internally, we almost never do.
When you're already going through something painful, opening up feels like one thing too many. You're already feeling hurt, vulnerable and confused - the idea of letting someone else see it, even someone you trust completely, can feel like too much to ask of yourself or of them.
And so the default becomes isolation. It feels easier, quieter, safer.
But isolation doesn't protect us from what we're going through. Carrying that heavy luggage alone just makes it heavier, more challenging and more exhausting.
We are all holding something
Every single person you pass today is carrying something. A scar you can't see. A struggle they don't talk about. A chapter of their life that is hard in ways that don't show on the outside.
We all have something. And as simple as that sounds - is that not one of the most connecting realisations there is? That we are all, in some way, the same.
Humans are biologically wired for connection - we are not designed to carry things alone. And yet we've created a culture where we freely share the promotion, the vacation photos, the new relationship - but not the internal struggles that shape us the most.
Why is that?
What we share and what we hide
Think about the last time you complained to someone about your job, vented about a text that went unanswered, or shared the annoyance of having to eat 100g+ of protein in a day. How much lighter did you feel afterward?
That is what sharing does. Even for the small things.
Now imagine what it does for the heavy ones.
The heartbreak. The feeling of being lost. The burnout. The grief that comes with IVF. We decide these are too much, too heavy, too complicated to share.
But what if we didn't? Could you imagine what that would do - for them and for you?
The beauty of being truly seen
When you share what no one else sees - and someone receives it without judgement, without trying to fix it, and without making you feel like it's too much - something shifts. You feel seen. Not the performance of you. The real you.
That is one of the most healing experiences a human being can have.
It's why community isn't just a nice addition to healing. It's a central part of it. Being surrounded by people who understand - who are walking something similar - that changes something at a fundamental level.
It will feel hard at first. Letting people in always does. But on the other side of that vulnerability is something beautiful - to share what no one else sees, and feel so seen in return.
This is something we thought about deeply when building Therapeia. Not just the therapy, not just the practices - but the individuals you would be in the room with. Those who are going through the same thing, who will understand without needing an explanation, who will remind you - just by being there - that you are not alone.
If you're ready to stop carrying it alone, we'd love to welcome you.
